The author argues that there are important differences between managers and leaders and offers these ways to build leadership:
- Share your vision. Help your employees understand your vision and the part they play in it.
- Get out of the way. Provide guidance and feedback, but allow employees to find their own ways to perform well. Focus on the “why” not the “how.”
- Give others room to shine. Employees are your greatest resource. Give them chances to showcase talents and knowledge.
- Learn from your mistakes. Don’t expect to be perfect and don’t be afraid to admit mistakes. Be open minded and willing to adjust and grow.
