Beginning this fall (2016) and continuing into spring 2017, the California Department of Education will be sending College Readiness Block Grant monies directly to qualifying local educational agencies. You do not need to do anything to qualify. The DOE will be using student data for grades 9-12 to assure that LEAs who served at least one unduplicated pupil during the 2015-16 school year and who are (or are currently in the process of becoming) ACS WASC accredited will automatically receive the funds.
If you receive funds, you will be asked to submit plans showing how you will measure impact, how they will increase or improve services to ensure college readiness, and a description of the extent to which your unduplicated pupils have accessibility to UC approved courses. In addition:
- Your plan needs to include information showing how it aligns with the school district’s local control and accountability plan.
- To ensure community and stakeholder input, the plan shall be discussed at a school district meeting and adopted at the next scheduled meeting.
- As a condition for receiving the funds, recipients must report by January 1, 2017 how they will measure the impact of the funds on their unduplicated pupils’ access and successful matriculation to institutions of higher education, as identified within their plan.
