College & Career Readiness Task Bank
Inflexion (formerly EPIC) created a set of performance tasks based on the results of a two-year study of over 2,000 college and university syllabi, assignments, and assessments. Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the goal of this study was to establish an empirical understanding of the expectations of entry-level college assignments. Inflexion analyzed documents from thirteen entry-level courses and identified trends in postsecondary course requirements. Using this data, Inflexion created and field-tested curricular materials in both exit-level high school and entry-level college courses.
The results and materials from this study contribute to the ongoing conversation around college and career readiness and respond to increased interest in performance tasks as an alternate and/or additional form of assessment in high school. Tasks developed for this work can be used as formative assessments, allowing educators to modify/inform their teaching as students work toward demonstrating proficiency and college- and career-ready levels of performance.
